When did you decide to join the five star movement? And what were your reasons to do so?
Era il 2008, e in Italia cadde l’ennesimo governo. Quella volta toccò a Prodi. Capii che la classe politica non era in grado di governare il paese e che era necessario impegnarsi in prima persona, poiché chi lo aveva fatto fino a quel momento aveva miseramente fallito.
Da un paio di anni leggevo il Blog di Beppe Grillo, apprezzavo le sue denunce e decisi di andare a conoscere il gruppo degli “Amici di Beppe Grillo” di Bologna. Incontrai persone che volevano occuparsi attivamente del territorio, fare qualcosa di concreto. Nel 2009 ci sarebbero state le elezioni amministrative e organizzammo la lista civica Beppegrillo.it nella quale mi candidai. Fui eletta consigliere nella circoscrizione Navile di Bologna. Il mio mandato fu brevissimo: iniziò a Luglio 2009 e terminò a Febbraio 2010 in seguito alle dimissioni del Sindaco Flavio Delbono che era coinvolto nel Cinzia-gate. Nonostante la breve esperienza capii l’importanza di essere dentro alle istituzioni per incidere veramente sulle decisioni politiche della città. Nel frattempo nacque il vero e proprio Movimento 5 Stelle. Dopo il lungo commissariamento della città durato quasi due anni, ci ripresentammo alle elezioni amministrative del 2011 e fui eletta consigliere comunale.
It was 2008, and in Italy another government fell yet. This time Prodi fell. I realized that the political class was not able to govern the country and it was necessary to engage in first person. The governament had miserably failed another time.
For a couple of years I was reading the blog of Beppe Grillo, I appreciated his complaints and I decided to go and meet the group of "Beppe Grillo’s friends" in Bologna. I met people who wanted to be actively engaged in the city, to do something about it. In 2009, there were local elections and we organized the Civic Beppegrillo.it in which I candidated myself. I was elected councilor in the Navile district of Bologna. My mandate was short: it began in July 2009 and ended in February 2010 following the resignation of Mayor Flavio Delbono who was involved in the Cinzia-gate. Despite the short experience I realized the importance of being in the institutions to really affect the political decisions of the city. Meanwhile, the real Movement 5 Stars was born. After the long city commissioner, that it lasted almost two years, we presented a Civic for the elections in 2011 and I was elected Councilor.
For how long will be a city councilor for Bologna?
Il mandato di consigliere dura 5 anni, ora io sono alla fine del secondo anno e ne ho altri tre, sempre che questo Sindaco non dimetta!! A dicembre 2012 Beppe Grillo mi ha tolto l’uso del simbolo del M5S e ora sto facendo il consigliere comunale indipendente senza logo.
The mandate of of counselor is five years long, now I'm at the end of the second year and I have three more. In December 2012 Beppe Grillo took me away the use of the symbol M5S and now I am an independent councilor without logo.
What happened last year when you talked at TV and Beppe Grillo reacted?
Il 30 ottobre 2012 andai al talk show Ballarò, che è una trasmissione politica molto seguita a livello nazionale. La trasmissione andò bene, ma il giorno dopo Beppe Grillo pubblicò un post sul suo blog intitolato “Il Talk show ti uccide”. Grillo, ma sarebbe meglio dire Casaleggio, usò un linguaggio molto duro con precisi richiami sessuali per criticare me come persona e non il contenuto politico del mio intervento. La vicenda assunse grande rilievo mediatico nazionale. Io contestai le parole di Grillo e i miei due colleghi consiglieri del M5S si allontanarono da me durante una seduta di consiglio comunale mentre tutti i consiglieri di tutti i partiti mi stavano esprimendo solidarietà. In seguito criticai alcune decisioni di Grillo, decisioni che mai furono condivise con la base, come le regole per la scelta dei candidati al Parlamento e le condizioni che gli stessi dovevano accettare. Una in particolare è molto grave. I parlamentari dovranno affidare a Grillo la gestione del budget per le spese di rappresentanza e comunicazione. Si parla di circa 50 milioni di euro in 5 anni. Grillo sceglierà a quale agenzia di comunicazione affidare il lavoro. Sarà l’agenzia al servizio dei parlamentari o sarà l’agenzia a decidere la linea politica che dovranno seguire i parlamentari? Ora decide tutto Casaleggio: regole, argomenti, linea politica, espulsioni. Sarà così anche per i parlamentari?
On 30 October 2012 I went to the talk show Ballarò, which is a very popular policy transmission at national level. The transmission went well, but the next day Beppe Grillo published a post on his blog entitled "The talk show kills you." Grillo, but it would be better to say Casaleggio, used a very strong language with precise sexual references to criticize me as a person and not the political content of my speech. The story ran all around the country on major national media. I criticized Grillo's words and my two M5Stars councilor fellows turned away from me during a session of the city council, while all the councilors of all parties were expressing me solidarity. Later I criticized some Grillo's decisions, decisions that were never shared with the base, as the rules for the selection of candidates to the Parliament and the conditions that they had to accept. One in particular is very serious. The parliamentarians will have to entrust to Grillo the budget management for the costs of representation and communication. We are talking about 50 million euro over 5 years. Grillo will choose which communications agency entrusted with the job. It will be the agency at the service of parliamentarians or the agency will decide on policy that M5Stars parliamentarians will have? Now Casaleggio decides everything: rules, arguments, policy, expulsions. It will be thesame for M5Stars parliamentarians?
Are you still part of the movement? Do you still support the movement?
No, non faccio più parte del movimento da quando Grillo mi ha cacciato. Il gruppo di Bologna ha accettato il dettame di Grillo in silenzio e mi hanno escluso anche loro. Anche se volessi non potrei supportare il movimento poiché il movimento non mi vuole.
No, I am no longer part of the movement since Grillo kicked me out. The Bologna group has accepted the dictates of Grillo in silence and they have excluded me too. Even if I wanted I could not support the motion because the movement does not want me.
How do you see the organisation of the movement and the leadership of Grillo?
L’organizzazione del movimento è molto semplice, Casaleggio decide tutto, Grillo pontifica nelle piazze, le persone applaudono, poi votano M5S. Il vero problema è che il M5S è una forza politica completamente pilotata da una azienda di marketing (Casaleggio Associati spa). L’azienda farà gli interessi del paese o farà il suo business?
Questo verticismo è emerso in maniera chiara solo negli ultimi mesi, quando le elezioni politiche si sono avvicinate. Fino a quando abbiamo lavorato come piccoli gruppi nelle varie città , eravamo molto autonomi.
The organization of the movement is very simple, Casaleggio decides everything, Grillo pontificates in the streets and squares, people applaud, then they vote M5Stars. The real problem is that M5S is a political force completely controlled by a marketing company (Casaleggio Associati SpA). The company will make the country's interests or his business?
This oligarchic emerged clearly only in the last few months, when elections were near. Until we work as small groups in different cities, we were very independent and democratic.
What can explain the popularity of the movement?
I partiti politici italiani negli ultimi 30 anni hanno rubato in lungo e il largo e hanno portato il paese ad una profonda crisi economica e etica. Qualsiasi nuova forza politica trova terreno fertile. Perchè proprio Grillo?
Uso le parole di Antonio Gramsci da “L’ordine nuovo” del 26 aprile 1921:
“Si è presentato come l’anti-partito, ha aperto le porte a tutti i candidati, ha dato modo a una moltitudine incomposta di coprire con una vernice di idealità politiche vaghe e nebulose lo straripare selvaggio delle passioni, degli odi, dei desideri. E' divenuto così un fatto di costume, si è identificato con la psicologia antisociale...”
Parlava di Mussolini e del Fascismo.
The Italian political parties over the past 30 years have stolen far and wide and they have brought the country to a deep economic and ethic crisis. Any new political force finds fertile ground. Why just Grillo?
I use Antonio Gramsci's words as "The New Order" of April 26, 1921:
"He portrayed himself as the anti-party, he opened the doors to all the candidates, he has given way to a broken multitude for covering all with with a veneer of faint and hazy political ideals the wild passions, hatreds, desires. And it became such a matter of costume, it is identified with the anti-social psychology ... "
Gramsci was spoken about Mussolini and Fascism.
